Do I need to file a tax return in Spain?
If you live in Spain (183+ days per year), you're considered a tax resident and likely need to file an annual tax return. This is called the Declaración de la Renta or IRPF - it covers your salary, freelance income, investments, rental income, and more.
The filing period is April to June each year for the previous year's income. For example, in April-June 2025, you file for income earned in 2024.

Spanish income tax is progressive - you pay higher rates on income above each threshold. These rates combine both state and regional components.
