What is Modelo 720?
Modelo 720 is an informative declaration that Spanish tax residents must file to report assets held outside Spain. It covers three categories: bank accounts, securities/investments, and real estate. If any category exceeds €50,000 in value, you must declare all assets in that category.
This is not a tax payment - it's an information declaration. However, failure to file or filing incorrectly can result in significant penalties. The form must be filed annually if there have been changes of more than €20,000 in any category since the last filing.
The deadline is March 31 each year for assets held as of December 31 of the previous year. New Spanish tax residents typically need to file this in their first or second year of residency.
